Here are highlights from April's U.S. auto sales report:
Industry rises 20 percent
Overall U.S. sales rose 20 percent in April to 982,302 light vehicles, a gain of 162,610 over the same period a year ago.
A senior General Motors executive today denied reports that President Barack Obama's automotive task force has pressured the automaker to dump GMC and Pontiac. Company sales chief Mark LaNeve also denied rumors that GM plans to terminate the franchise agreements of poorly performing dealers before June 1 to accelerate its dealership consolidation campaign. "The strategy we laid out for you [in February] is still the strategy," LaNeve, GM's vice president of vehicle sales, service and marketing, said today in an interview with Automotive News.
The Toyota FT-86 leaks again - this time the standard model
After what seems like years of waiting for Toyota’s sporty and ‘affordable’ sports car – the Toyota FT-86 – to arrive, information is coming thick and fast as the official debut looms at the Toyota Motor Show in a month’s time. And now we get what appears to be a standard Toyota FT-86 from another Japanese brochure leak.
